El Callao is the chief seaport of Peru. The Historic Centre of Callao is located 15 km (9.3 mi) west of Historic Centre of Lima, the country’s capital, and is part of the Lima Metropolitan Area. Callao borders Lima Province on the north, east and south, and the Pacific Ocean on the west. It was founded by Spanish colonists in 1537, just two years after Lima foundation (1535).

The districts of Callao turned out to be the most violent and feared of Lima, where murder and shootings were a daily ritual for the local gangs. In addition to the segregation, La Punta, a piece of land connected to El Callao is mainly constituted by wealthy families, and the security placed to repel the population of El Callao creates an unspoken border.

The Marina Terminal Callao is an academic project that seeks to recover the main port of Peru. In addition, the urban grid will be modified in order to satisfy the new needs and reconnect the city as a whole. High density buildings will be placed in order to relocate the population already living in the slums but offering them better commodities for their land. A better understanding of public space and cultural spaces will be taken in account.

Tourism as itself is a key factor to develop The Marina Terminal as a nuclear point of commercial trading and an adequate port for intercontinental cruises, with the intention to provide an improved infrastructure system and public spaces to reintegrate the violent society into a unified global grid.
